瓢箪 Gourd
Earrings featuring an awaji knot shaped like a gourd (a plant from the gourd family). In Japan, gourds are considered auspicious charms believed to protect against misfortune. They have also been used since ancient times as containers for water, sake, and as decorative items.
Size (excluding hardware): approx. 5 × 2.5 cm
Awaji-knot: It is said that the name Awaji knot comes from the fact that the rounded parts at both ends are shaped like awabi (Japanese for abalone, a shellfish species). If you pull both ends of the string, it will be tied even stronger, so it also has the meaning of “to be tied forever” in hopes of a strong and a long lasting relationship.
