A Harmoney of Two Heritage

Based in the heart of Tampere, Finland, itookäsi is a contemporary jewelry brand that bridges two distinct cultures.

We create unique accessories that marry the intricate, traditional Japanese art of Mizuhiki with the raw, sustainable beauty of Finnish wood.

Each piece is meticulously handmade by a Japanese artisan living in Finland.

By combining eco-friendly paper cords with local materials, we transform ancient techniques into modern wearable art that feels at home in any wardrobe.

The Origin of Our Name

The name itookäsi was born from a quiet play on words, a linguistic bridge between my Japanese roots and my home in Finland.

In classical Japanese literature, the phrase ito okashi is used to capture a fleeting, profound sense of charm - everything that is beautiful, heart-warming, or wonderfully humorous. It is the feeling of a moment that makes you smile.

By a beautiful coincidence, the word ito also translates to "thread" or "string," the very foundation of Mizuhiki.

I chose to marry this Japanese sentiment with the Finnish word käsi, meaning "hand." Together, they form itookäsi: a promise of "many emotions created by hand."

It is my hope that as these handcrafted threads pass from my hands to yours, they carry with them that same sense of okashi bringing a multitude of positive emotions and a spark of joy to your everyday life.

Knots of Connection

In Japan, Mizuhiki knots have long been cherished as symbols of good wishes, gratitude, and meaningful connections.

They are traditionally used to gift-wrap moments of importance.

At itookäsi, we carry this sentiment into every design. When you wear our jewelry, you aren't just wearing an accessory; you are wearing a story of connection - linking the traditions of the East with the natural landscapes of the North.
